education saves lives - it's simple

February 2009 News Update

  • Students involved with TME lesson development

  • The media students at Coventry who have been looking at helping us with our disc production as part of their course have been working hard to find images to illustrate our lesson on Basic Hygiene. They have found a good number on the internet and are now looking at asking the various artists for formal permission to use their work. This is going to be an ongoing need, so if you have access to any pictures from other countries or are travelling overseas this year then please get in touch. We need about 2,000 good quality pictures or video of all sorts of things now!

  • Picture Search Success!

  • Emma and Bev have also been trawling the web for pictures suitable for illustrating our lessons. Although some people do want payment we stick to those who are willing to let us use their images for free. Some artists have really helped by offering to supply all their work on disc or in one case, to shoot a better picture of tablets specially for us! These people are now being credited on our website as a recognition of their generous help.

  • Away weekend a great success!

  • The Trustees met for the annual strategic planning session at Penhurst Retreat Centre in Sussex. If you are looking for a peaceful place to retreat to then do have a look at Penhurst - it really is superb. Amongst other things the Trustees discussed how to focus our activities during the coming year in order to increase impact. As well as strengthening our administration and management capacity, it was decided to concentrate on the following countries:

    South Africa
    India
    Kenya
    Uganda
    Cambodia
    Rwanda

  • Future collaboration with Anne Gloag

  • Steve and Helen were able to meet with Anne Gloag in London to discuss collaboration. Anne is heavily involved in schools, orphanages and hospitals in Kenya and also has strong links to Liberia. She had many ideas about distribution in Kenya and is taking sets of our discs to Kenya for the local staff to evaluate the content. If suitable this could be a fantastic new avenue to increase the spread and impact. Many thanks to Patron Linda Bennett for introducing us and arranging the meeting.

  • Exciting links with Urdu community

  • Shahnaz Akhter, a supporter from Warwick University , is helping us to garner further support from the Urdu speaking community in Coventry. Shahnaz and her mother are planning to host a small gathering of Urdu speaking women who are interested in finding out more about TME and ways they can help us (translation, recording and fund raising ideas are all being planned!) Furthermore, Shahnaz’s uncle in Pakistan is keen to help link us with potential partners who will benefit from our life skills lessons in Urdu as more become available.
